About the practice

A small city practice with an open mind

Huisartsenpraktijk Rivierenbuurt is a small-scale, busy city practice in Amsterdam. With a close-knit and dedicated team, we provide the most comprehensive primary care possible, with consideration for our patients and for one another.

We are a traditional, friendly practice with a modern approach. This means we combine personal and accessible care with digital capabilities that help us manage the increasing pressure on healthcare as effectively as possible.

You can come to us for the full range of general practitioner care: from minor complaints to long-term chronic and palliative care, and from mental health support to preventive care and referrals to secondary care.

Our practice is inclusive and LGBTQI+ friendly. Everyone is welcome, regardless of religion, background, sex, sexuality, identity, or story.

At this time, we are not open to new patients.

Our team

In our practice, a small and committed team of GPs, practice assistants and practice nurses work closely together. We collaborate to provide the best possible care for all our patients.

Our practice assistants are the first point of contact. They help you make appointments, answer questions, and can provide advice on common health complaints. Our practice nurses support patients with, for example, chronic conditions, lifestyle-related questions, and mental health concerns.

A permanent GP team, but not always the same doctor

Our practice has a stable team of GPs, under the supervision of practice owner Anne Mieke Achterhuis. As all our GPs work part-time, we cannot guarantee that you will always be seen by the same doctor.
When scheduling appointments, we try—if possible—to book you with the GP who has treated you before, to ensure continuity of care.
If you have a preference for a specific GP, you are always welcome to let us know when making an appointment. However, the level of urgency may sometimes determine scheduling, in which case the first available doctor will be assigned.
Our GP team consists, in addition to practice owner Anne Mieke Achterhuis, of Lana van der Heijden, Nadia Abdelmalik, Estella Klaassen, and Paul Smeele, and is supported by Merijn Lewis, physician assistant.
