Patients are only eligible for reimbursement of sleep and anxiety medication (via the so-called B2 coding) if one of the following medical indications applies:
- You have epilepsy, diagnosed by a neurologist.
- You have an anxiety disorder (a DSM-5 diagnosis made by a psychiatrist) and have previously used at least two other medications (excluding benzodiazepines) without sufficient effect.
- You have multiple psychiatric conditions for which you are, or have been, under psychiatric care, and for which the use of higher doses of benzodiazepines is considered necessary.
- You have an incurable illness and require medication to reduce anxiety and/or remain calm in the terminal phase of life (palliative care).
In all other situations, sleep and sedative medications are not reimbursed by health insurance.
